Popup advertisements, which can be
purchased for as little as 10,000 for $9.99, are a form of
advertising which has gotten a very bad reputation. When you buy
these, your ad or website will be displayed as an annoying and intrusive
"pop up" ad on websites across the internet. Sometimes
your ad/website will be relevant to the website where it is popped up,
but often it will not be. Most internet users despise these ads
since they interfere with their enjoyment of the website they chose to
visit. Most will close the ad before it fully displays, and
many, many browsers these days have pop up blockers which will keep your
ad from being displayed at all. Overall, buying popup ads is
a waste of money.
From a different angle, however, popups
can be effective if used on your own site, if you are trying to collect
information from your visitors or make them a special offer.
The same applies to popunders (below). They should, however, be
limited or they may drive visitors away.
PopUnders
Popunder advertisements are similar to pop up ads but a
little less intrusive. Instead of popping up on top of the website
a visitor is enjoying, these pop under it, waiting to be seen only when
the user closes the website he is visiting. While these are less
annoying than popup ads, browser popunder blockers will limit the
majority of them from being displayed, and users will never see them.
These are another waste of money.
