Buying Opt In Lists or Bulk Email
Opt-In Lists
Opt-in lists are lists of people who have
chosen to receive email about a particular topic or from a specific
website. Such targeted lists can be purchased online and prices
vary according to the topic and number of names on the list. These
seem like a good way to let people know about your new website since the
people on them are already interested in your product or service.
Unfortunately, most of these lists that
are for sale are junk and not worth the money. The buyer may say
that the names come from people who want to receive email offers about
anything from homes for sale to the newest hair product, but chances are
that many of these names are on the list are fictional or out of
date. You may end up emailing people who never asked to be
emailed, causing your website to be shut down. Or you may be
emailing people who do not exist. These lists are generally
a scam.
Bulk Email
Bulk email lists are similar to opt-in
lists; whereas opt-in lists may have several hundred or several thousand
names on them, bulk email lists may have several hundred thousand names
or millions of names. You can buy software to send out these
thousands or millions of emails or hire a company to do it for you;
either way, you will probably be accused of spamming, have your website
shut down and possibly violate the 2003 CAN-Spam Act. So don't do
it.
